Kano govt approves contributory health scheme


Kano State government has approved the establishment of the State contributory Healthcare Scheme for the immense benefit of workers and other citizens in the State.

This was disclosed by the State Head of Service, Muhammad Awwal Na`iya, at the opening of 1 Day workshop for Senior Stakeholders on contributory Healthcare Scheme in Kano State held at Tahir Guest Palace, Nassarawa GRA. Kano.

Public Relations Officer ,Office of the Head of Civil Service, Kano State, Mustapha Ibrahim Fagge in a statement yesterday said Awwal Na`iya stated that it is gratifying to say that when the scheme is fully implemented would at an interim cover workers in the state service, primary school teachers and local government employees.

“Subsequently, the private sector and informal sector would follow suit. While other citizens in the state can also have access to the scheme under the guidance of the proposed State Agency.”, he said.
He then highlighted some achievements of this government which include sustained payment of salaries, construction of Housing Scheme for workers in collaboration with Labour Union, entrenchment of the SERVICOM concept, introduction of promotional examination as well as Renovation of office premises etc.

On his part the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Kabeer Ibrahim Getso disclosed that contributory Healthcare financing is now a global accepted method of financing healthcare with the aim of achieving a state where Majority of the population can have access to beneficial health packages, without being pushed into poverty.

Dr. Getso also stated that the state government is doing other things within available resources to improve healthcare services in the State. Some of which include: Resumption of work on the construction and equipping of Giginyu Hospital and Zoo road Paediatric Hospital, reactivation of ICU Units at Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital as well as improving and sustaining free maternal and child Healthcare program in the state and local government facilities.

In his remarks the Coordinator National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Alhaji Shuaibu Ahmed Indabawa who dwelt intensively on the modalities and level of the progress of the Scheme in Kano so far, thanked the Head of Service and the Commissioner of Health for their concerted effort to see that the scheme scale through in the executive council meeting.
