What Causes Anxiety? That is a very common question. Why do I feel anxious? What is causing it?
There are many causes of anxiety.
One of the main causes is stress. Whether this may be being stressed at work, stressed at school or even being stressed about money, these contribute enormously to the development of anxiety in a person. It is important to pin-point what is making you feel anxious. Is it an approaching deadline? Is it an exam that is coming up? Is it worry about not being able to pay your next bill? Another cause of anxiety is having a phobia. A phobia is a severe and sometimes irrational fear of something. It is most likely that you have a phobia of something or someone. However, it is when you come into contact with this phobia that can cause anxiety and sometimes panic attacks.
Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) is simply when you do not feel anxious about one significant issue, but rather you feel anxious about a number of things. You may wake up in the morning and start to feel anxious, and sometimes for reasons you have no knowledge of. GAD is long-term, and can often have an impact of your day to day life.
Anxiety is also often a cause of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. This may occur when you have experienced a particularly disturbing event, such as military combat, assault, or witnessing natural disasters. PTSD does not always occur straight after the event, but can sometimes show up many years later. This, in and of itself, makes a person extremely anxious.
Last but not least, anxiety can be a symptom of a medical illness or a side effect of medicine you are taking. You may be anxious about what the future may bring concerning your medical status, and this is very common.
It is important to identify what is the cause of your anxiety. Once you know what it is, it is then the case of finding the right treatment. A person who is stressed about work or school may need to take a different route of action, than someone with PTSD for example.
Water is emphasized a lot when it comes to our physical and mental health. When trying to relieve your anxiety, always check first that you are drinking enough water. You may think 'well what has water got to do with my mental state?' Your brain controls your thoughts; whether they are positive or negative. To make sure your brain is functioning properly, you should be hydrated at all times. Water keeps you hydrated- however all the more significantly here - it is a useful when it comes to relieving anxiety.
Water transports hormones and supplements to crucial organs in the body. When we do not keep ourselves well-hydrated' our bodies may respond with a number of symptoms. One of these symptoms is anxiety; which we would never have thought comes from not drinking enough water!
